Slide Mold Releases
How to determine what brand of mold release to use
Consider how much product is in the can and the percent of active ingredient. Even within the same brands, mold releases are offered with the same ingredients but with a varying quantity of active ingredient. Generally this is reflected in price cost. Most brands offer products utilizing the same active ingredients as their competitors but with different amounts. The amount of active ingredient plays a key role in the measurement of value when calculating the number of parts released per can when divided by the cost per can. Compare the different propellants used. All Slide Products incorporate environmentally safe propellants with proprietary formulas to enhance performance.
How to select the right mold release
Using the right mold release will ensure product and process compatibility. When selecting a mold release agent, consider whether the molded part will be painted or decorated and whether they are going to be used in a food application such as dinnerware or perhaps in a medical application also the type of plastic being molded does it contain thermo-set resins? A quick look at the pros and cons of Silicone vs Non-Silicone mold releases can be helpful. Silicone mold release is the best lubricant because it is slippery and durable and lasts longer without re-application so it provides the most cycles per spray. It can usually be used in food-related molding. The drawbacks are that it is non paintable and is not recommended if the plastic part will have secondary operations such as hot stamping or ultrasonic welding. It also is not compatible with electrical components due to the nature that silicone is a resistor and impedes current. Non-Silicone releases can be used with electrical components and are paintable and can be used when secondary operations will be performed on the molded parts. Some Non-Silicone releases can be used for food related molding. The drawbacks are that Non-Silicone releases are not as slippery and durable as silicone and may require re-application more often. Get free samples and evaluate the differences for your purposes and improve your process performance and reduce rejected parts.
How much mold release is required?
Applying more release than necessary can adversely affect cost without process effectiveness. If the current molding process requires frequent mold release and the process and resulting parts are producing good results, but a cost reduction action must be taken Watch Slide Videos on their recommendations for an effective product use, and consider using the same mold release with a heavier active ingredient.
